Dear Romero Academy at Resurrection Families,

Since my last letter to you on July 1st, the Cincinnati Public School board voted to start their school year on August 24th, 2020 with distance learning until at least September 28th, 2020.

This decision does not affect Romero Academy at Resurrection – we still intend to start in-person instruction five days a week beginning August 19th. Our top priority is the healthy, safety, and well-being of our students, staff, and families. We’ve made this decision in consultation with health experts and as a response to the needs of our families.

We are in a unique position to start in-person because we are enrolling a maximum of 125 students in a building designed to hold 260. This is less than half of our building capacity. In addition, we are only serving grades PK-5 in a building designed for K-8. As a result, we are able to spread students out across the building to ensure 6-foot physical distancing in classrooms.

The combination of our available space with 11 additional safety protocols (outlined below) allows us to create an environment that prioritizes the health and safety of our students, families, and staff in accordance with the guidance offered by the CDC and state officials.

We will continue to offer in-person instruction as long as we can follow established safety guidelines. Should circumstances change and we are required to return to remote learning, we are prepared to support families with: a device for every student, daily contact from teachers, top-rated digital curriculum, ongoing faith formation and character education, and access to subsidized internet for those who need it. Rest assured knowing we are regularly monitoring the situation and will communicate with you clearly and frequently.

In addition to all of our logistical preparation, please know that we are praying for you. We ask for the intercession of our patron, St. Oscar Romero, who lived his life embracing challenges while remaining full of hope. We, too, are emboldened by this same spirit to face each changing day with the strength to serve you.

In Christ,

Tom Loughead, Principal

2020 Announcement of Fall In-Person Learning

Dear Romero Academy at Resurrection Families,

On Monday, June 29th the Cincinnati Public School board voted to return students to in-person instruction 2 or 3 days per week on a rotating basis–with the rest of student learning happening at home. Our plan for the 2020-21 school year is not tied to the district’s decision.

Romero Academy at Resurrection intends to offer in-person instruction 5 days per week starting August 19th, 2020.

Our top priority is the health, safety and well-being of our students, staff, and families. The reality is we are serving grades pre-K through 5th next year in a building designed to hold additional grades. We will use our additional available space and follow the “return to school” guidelines issued by the Centers for Disease Control and local officials to create an environment that prioritizes the health and safety of our students, families, and staff. The following measures will also be implemented to maintain the safety and well-being of our school community:

Health and Safety Measures for the 2020-2021 School Year

    • We will screen staff and students for temperature and other signs of infection every day
    • Visitors will be limited to family and will undergo the same screening procedures
    • We will maintain social distancing throughout the day
    • Masks will be required for students, faculty, and staff
    • We will provide hand sanitizer and implement frequent handwashing
    • We will increase sanitization efforts–especially on high-touch surfaces
    • Students, faculty, or staff who have been exposed to COVID-19 or have heightened temperature will be expected to isolate at home per CDC guidelines
    • Licensed school nurse on site 5 days per week

As a parent, I know it is difficult to balance the demands of work and your child’s education during this time. I also know each child has unique social, emotional, and learning needs that are impacted when away from school. My hope is that offering 5 days per week of safe, in-person instruction will meet the needs of students and families alike.

We’re looking forward to a safe return to in-person school on August 19th. We also recognize that conditions continue to change and reserve the right to shift to a remote learning model if the circumstances and safety issues dictate. We promise to communicate frequently and clearly. This website will be updated regularly with general information and materials which support the academic growth, health, and safety of our students. Check back for updates and more resources! Please follow Romero Academy at Resurrection on Facebook for the most up-to-date news and links to free community resources. To learn more about next year, please look at this one page document and visit the “Academics” section of our website.

The 2020–2021 school year will be challenging, but our commitment to your child(ren)’s well-being and success will never change. No matter what, our top priority is making sure your child safely grows in knowledge, character, and faith.

Our patron, St. Oscar Romero, tells us to “be more.” Times like these require us to be more in ways we have never imagined. Following the example of our patron, the team at Romero Academy at Resurrection promises to meet these challenges and provide a safe and faith-filled high-quality learning environment for your children.

In Christ,

Tom Loughead, Principal
