5 Questions
To ask a school before enrolling your child.
You know what’s best for your child, and we’re here to help you make the right decision for your family — even if that means choosing another school. There are a lot of things to consider when choosing a school. These are some common questions that we hear from families that may help you, too.
1. How do you support each student’s learning pace and ability?
This question will show how much emphasis the school places on personalizing their curriculum and giving their students individualized attention.
2. How do you communicate with parents, and how often?
Communication is essential for parents to receive updates about the school and your child. Make sure you know that communication is frequent and consistent.
3. What is the school’s policy for bullying and discipline?
Peer behavior and bullying is a big concern among parents. Asking about discipline will show how the school monitors behavior to avoid conflict among students.
4. How do you measure the academic progress of students?
This question will help you understand how the school assesses each student’s performance through testing and other methods.
5. What is the average class size and the teacher-student ratio?
This information will give you a sense of how much time teachers are able to spend with each student individually.
We recognize you, parents and families, as the first educators of your children. We hope you find these questions useful as you learn more about your school options.
