The Romero Report – March 2024

It’s hard to believe we are already well into the second half of the school year. We recently brought our two schools together to celebrate the Feast Day of our patron, St. Oscar Romero. Our scholars had the opportunity to celebrate mass together at Annunciation Church and then play together at recess and in the Romero Olympics. It is moments like these that fill me with great pride in our staff as they help create scholars in this life and saints in the next.

Last newsletter, I asked for your prayers as our 8th graders navigated the high school placement test and admissions process. I’m thrilled to share an impressive 75% of our 8th-grade scholars have been accepted to Catholic high schools and are eagerly preparing to embark on this new chapter of their academic journey come fall. Thank you for your prayers! In June, we will celebrate this first graduating class from Romero Academies and are thrilled to send these 25 scholars off to phenomenal schools in Cincinnati.

In addition to this exciting news, I’m pleased to report both of our schools have shown remarkable growth in our mid-year testing. Over 50% of our third graders have already passed the state’s 3rd Grade Reading Guarantee, a requirement for being promoted to 4th grade. Furthermore, our scholars have demonstrated impressive improvements in reading and math, with a 4 percentile increase in proficiency. These achievements underscore our commitment to academic excellence and highlight the incredible progress our scholars are making each day.

As we look ahead to the 2024-2025 school year, I’m thrilled to announce re-enrollment is now underway, and the response has been overwhelmingly positive. With over 60% of seats at both schools already filled, we’re on track to have a waiting list in several classes. This enthusiastic response is a testament to the exceptional educational experience we provide and the satisfaction of our parents. Their support and advocacy continues to fuel our success, and I’m grateful for their unwavering commitment to our schools. You can find out more about the satisfaction of Romero parents by reading about our parent survey below.

During this Holy Week, please know the scholars and staff at Romero Academies are keeping you in our prayers. We wish you a blessed Holy Week and happy Easter!

Best,

Emily Gilbride
